Carbon fibre motor tubes

Hi All,

I'm getting some custom carbon fibre tubes made for a scratch build I'm doing.

They're a Ø38.1mm ID tube - 500mm long, with a 2mm wall thickness. The layup is 50% Kevlar followed by 50% Carbon over the top.

The Kevlar should offer some flame protection against motor ejection charges from motors that don't protrude past the end of the tube.

I'll have pricing back shortly, but if anyone is interested in some, I can put together a group buy.

Cheers,

What sort of cost are you looking at?

In the past, many club members have rolled their own Fibreglass, Kevlar, or Carbon Tubes. While it is a lot cheaper, it does require a workspace, some basic tooling, and potentially some divorce lawyer fees unless you commit to diligent clean-up. However, the results can be worthwhile.

Would there be any interest in gathering interest in a composite fibre workshop?

Hi,

Yes. 🙂 I can do basic fiber glass work but round tubes seem to require a little more skill. Would love to know how to make tubes etc.

Cheers

Simon
