Dear Rocketry Enthusiasts,

Next Sunday the 12th of July is the monthly scheduled launch morning for QRS at the Cedar Grove launch site from 8am. As always, weather and launch site dependent. If you are planning a L1 or L2 certification attempt can you please let the committee know in advance.

As a reminder that we are launching in an open field with no cover so remember while we can't seek, we can slip, slop, slap and slide. Yes, I know it's winter but the sun is still strong and the BoM indicates the UV levels are still dangerous. So, sun screen, covered clothing etc. The field does have it's uneven bits and decent footwear is needed searching for rockets. For those who are not in the running for closest to pad, please be aware that there are fire ants in the area when walking around the site. With no facilities, please bring enough water to drink.

The launch cards have recently been updated with a few more details to enable the RSO to be better able to assess the rocket for a successful flight. These updated cards are double sided so the LCO can record the outcome of the flight on the reverse side. Please use the updated launch cards from the RSO desk and ensure all the fields are completed.

The high vis bunting will be set up around the power lines. Last launch we had the power lines catch a couple of rockets and while nothing disastrous happened we would like it to remain that way. We politely ask people not to venture into the areas barricaded by the bunting during the launch event. Energex also request that we don't have people around the cars during the launches due to the risk of earth currents if one of the conductors was brought down.

For those who are launching with electronics please be aware and follow the Electronics Best Practice, in the Electronics section of the rocketry forum to ensure a safe rocketry experience. If you need access to the Queensland Rocketry Forum please let me know and I'll follow up with account creation.

And finally, Carl and Georgia who run the farm on the opposite side of Cedar Grove Rd have kindly offered to house the QRS trailer. They have a farm shop (honesty box) just up the road and sell honey (hives are local), eggs etc.

Cheers.

Simon.

(QRS Secretary)
(QRS 198 / Tripoli 21407)

In total 35 exciting and entertaining flights across the morning 4xA / 4xB / 5xC / 12xD / 3xE / 1xF / 1xH / 2xI / 3xJ. To add to the excitement we had a pop test to verify parachute deployment and three tests of a new hybrid test stand.

Dear Rocketry Enthusiasts,

A successful launch morning was held on the rescheduled launch day of the 15th. The cloud's were favorable being just above our launch heights. Some wind during the morning did result in a couple of members getting their step counts in for the day. We hosted the inspector for RSHQ who watched proceedings to learn about rocketry and will provide some feedback on how we can improve our safety and operations. Channel 7 made an appearance to capture footage and interviews for an upcoming news segment.

In total, 28 exciting flights across the morning. 1xA / 3xB / 2xC / 2xD / 4xE / 3xF / 3xG / 2xH / 6 x I / 2 x J

A number of certifications were attempted. Congratulations to Kevin Shi and Luke Stachowicz on achieving their L2. Congratulations to Grace Hall, Tasman Aberdeen and Clinton Attridge on achieving their L1.

The RSO and LCO have noticed a number of flight cards come through in the old AMRS format. QRS has moved forward with the design and there is a two sided QRS flight card which has a couple more fields the RSO uses as part of the rocket assessment to improve the chances of a stable, safe and successful flight. Please ensure we are all using the newer QRS flight cards available from the RSO table.

Cheers and looking forward to the April launch.

Simon.
(QRS Secretary)
(QRS 198 / Tripoli 21407)
